I find this work exceptionally relaxing. Maybe because it was shot in by the beach in Kuwait… during a very dusty weather (as you can see). It’s my kind of place… and my kind of weather.

The dancing seashell, the crap hiding under a rock, the sound of children, the flying birds and the old man holding a bucket and wearing a mask alone in the distance. All these and more are all symbols that could be interpreted in many different ways, you can try to give them meanings or you can just let your sub subconscious do the work for you. Either way… enjoy it.

Shot with an HV20. Edited in FCP. Colour corrected with 3wcc and -lightly- graded with MBL. I also used the great Lock and Load to stabilise some shots. The beautiful music by Feather Drug suited the feeling I tried to convey perfectly.

إعلان وزارة الأعلام في الصفحة الأخيرة من جريدة الوطن 2009/8/29

ياله من إعلان مخزي ذلك الذي يبثه تلفزيون الكويت بين الفينة والأخرى و الذي يتحدث عن قانون “المرئي و المسموع”… ذلك القانون “البلوه” الذي يوجب “الاستتار” بسبته… لا التباهي به نهارا جهارا أمام خلق الله!

لا أدري كيف يفكر المسؤولون في تلفزيون الكويت و ماهو جمهورهم المستهدف في هذا الإعلان؟ بث الإعلان عبر القناة التلفزيونية الفضائية و في أوقات الذروة يعني أنه سيشاهد من قبل ملايين البشر حول العالم الذي يرقب و يتابع ما يحصل عندنا.. و ليس فئة محدودة من المشاهدين ، فهل هو شيء مقصود أن ترسخ فكرة “إننا نراقب و نتابع كل شيء قد تشاهدونه يا كويتييون… و لن نتوانى عن ملاحقة أي كلمة أو صورة تخرج منكم دون إذننا !!” لدى العالم أجمع؟ أما كان من الأجدى ترك القانون يأخذ مجراه دون هذه الضجة.. أو على الأقل الاكتفاء بإثارة الموضوع محليا؟

لا تهمني هنا قضية برنامج “صوتك وصل” و لا قناة سكوب ولا حتى قانون المرئي و المسموع ذاته ، فقد شاهدت البرنامج المقبور على اليوتيوب و وجدته أسخف من أن أضيع عليه بايتا واحدا من باندودث مدونتي ! (لن أضع له روابط.. اللي يبيه يدوره :razz:) و لكن ما قهرني و أثار حفيظتي هو ردة فعل وزارة الاعلام غير المبررة على هذه الحادثة.

طريقة الاعلان الاستفزازي الذي يبثه تلفزيون الكويت ذكرتنا بالضبط بإعلام النظام العراقي البائد الذي كان يفخر ببطشه و استبداده ، فإن كنا لا ننكر على نظام استبدادي مثل نظام صدام حسين أن يتباهى بقمعه و إحكام قبضته على شعبه فإننا نستنكر و بشدة أن يتبع الإعلام الكويتي نفس الأسلوب -علانية- وهو الإعلام الذي ينظر له العالم بأنه الأكثر حرية بالمنطقة!

يا جماعة الخير…

نعلم بأنكم تعملون وفقا للقانون ، و نعلم بأن تصرفاتكم و إجرائاتكم لم تأت من فراغ و لا كانت وليدة اللحظة ، بل هي نتيجة لتمادي بعض من أساء أستخدام الحرية المتاحة له… على الأقل برأيكم ، و لكن للقانون ميدانه و رجاله ، من أساء يعاقب بالقانون و القضاء… فلماذا “الهليلة” الإعلامية حول هذه القضية “بالذات”؟ هل هي المرة الأولى التي يخالف فيها القانون؟ أم أن نوعية المخالفة و حجمها أكبر من كل مرة؟ أم أن من إدعى التعرض للضرر هذه المرة “أخطر” من كل مرة و أكثر إثارة “للرعب”؟!

سؤال أخير…

نحن لا يحق لنا حتى أن نتكهن بما سيأتي به القضاء ولا حتى ان نتمنى ولكن…

اشتسوى عليكم يا تلفزيون الكويت إذا حصل و حكم القضاء ببراءة المدعى عليهم في هذه القضية؟!

مو راح تكون فشلتكم مضاعفة؟!

من حبهم لها

سأقطع عهدي بالتركيز على المواضيع الأيجابية لأنقل لكم بعضا من كلمات تحلطم وردت علي مساء اليوم عندما كنت في سوبرماركت “ساينسبيري” القريب من منزلنا ، توجهت إلى”الجمعية” لشراء بعض الحاجيات للفطور و تذكرت بأننا بحاجة للمبة لإضاءة المطبخ ، ما احتجته هو لمبه سبوت “فر” و يفضل أن تكون موفرة للطاقة ، إلى الآن الوضع طبيعي.

لم أجد ما أريد.. أغلب اللمبات كانت عادية… و مسمار… و لكن ليس ذلك ما شد انتباهي…

ما شد انتباهي هو الاعلان التالي الذي كان موضوعا بين الأرفف :

نظرا للتغيرات في قوانين الاتحاد الأوروبي ، سيتم وقف جلب الأنواع التالية من لمبات الإضاءة إبتداء من الأول من سبتمبر 2009 :

– اللمبات التقليدية بقوة 80 واط و ما أكثر

– اللمبات التقليدية المطفية/غير الشفافة

علما بأن بيع هذه الأنواع من اللمبات سيستمر حتى نفاذ مخزونها.

لم أتحسر كثيرا لأن أصحاب الجمعية أغرقوا الأرفف بما تبقى من مخزونهم من تلك اللمبات التي ستصبح قريبا من “الممنوعات” مما ضيع علي فرصة الحصول على ما أردت… و لكن حسرتي على تأخر ثقافتنا التي ما زالت لا تعرف الفرق بين اللمبة العادية و اللمبة الموفرة للطاقة غير أن الأولى “أرخص” من الثانية!

الحكومات هنا لم تعد بحاجة لأن تعلم الناس بأن اللمبات الوفرة للطاقة هي أرخص على المدى الطويل… و الأهم من ذلك صديقة أكثر بكثير للبيئة نظرا لأنها -بالطبع- لا تستهلك الا جزءا بسيطا من الطاقة إذا ما قورنت باللمبات التقليدية ، لم تعد تلك التوعية همها لأنها انتقلت بالفعل إلى مرحلة جديدة… و هي مرحلة الاستغناء عن تكنلوجيا أيام توماس أديسون -رحمه الله- نهائيا!

متى يا ترى سنحذو نحن حذوها؟

بالتأكيد ليس قبل أن “يكوّدوا” علينا فوائض فوائض مخزوناتهم من تلك اللمبات الأديسونية ! و طبعا تلك الفوائض تستهلك عندنا دون أية مشاكل ، فنحن نوفر لنا.. و لا نوفر لها !

غير ذلك… من سيهتم أصلا بفكرة الانتقال من التكنولوجيا الاديسونية إلى التكنلوجيا الموفرة للطاقة ؟ فذلك قرارسيعارضه نوابنا الأكارم بالطبع … خوفا من “شبهة التنفيع” لوكلاء تلك اللمبات التي ستكون شيطانية بأعينهم (ما لم تكن وكالتها تابعة لأصحابهم طبعا) ! أما طاقتنا و بيئتنا فكفاية نغني عليها و نحطلها دعايات بالشوارع و التلفزيونات و راح تتصلح بروحها 🙂

لما محطاتنا ما قدرت تستحمل الاحمال الكهربائية لجأت وزارة الكهرباء للقطع الكهربائي المبرمج (مع إني لما الحين مو فاهم شعلاقة البرمجة بقطع الكهرباء!) و أخذت تناشد المواطنين و المقيمين لترشيد الاستهلاك -ولاحظ التعليل- “علشان ما تنقطع” ، بالتالي المواطنين شنو كانت ردة فعلهم؟ و شنو كانت الكلمة الدارجة لديهم؟

” ألحين احنا من أغنى الدول النفطية و قاعدين نتبرع بمحطات حق الدول الثانية و محطاتنا تنقطع؟! ”
“وين الحكومة ما تبني لنا محطات جديدة تكفينا؟!”

طبعا لما نقول “تكفينا” فهذا معناه الباطن إن “خل الحكومة تحط لنا محطات أكثر… علشان نصرف كهربا أكثر على كيفنا من غير لا تنقطع ” هذا هو المعنى الحقيقي لمن يتمعن بالسالفة… للأسف!

طبعا الناس ما نتلام…

اذا الحكومة و المسؤولين قاعدين يخاطبون الناس بأسلوب “رشدو ولا ترى بنقطع عنكم!” ضاربين بعرض الحائط الأهداف الأساسيية الأسمى… كقضية البيئة و الاحتباس الحراري و مبدأ الحفاظ على الطاقة و تسخيرها لأهداف أخرى غير استهلاكية مثلا… فبالتأكيد ردة فعل الجمهور ستكون بالطريقة التي نراها!

نحن لا نلوم الناس اذا لم يدركوا خطورة الاسراف في الطاقة ، لأن زين منهم اللي معطين الحكومة ويه ! فلتتغير المفاهيم الكبرى و الاولويات لدى الحكومة (سواء حكومتنا أو كافة حكومات العالم) و لتتغير تبعا لذلك طريقة مخاطبتهم للجمهور و نوعية الرسائل التي يوجهونها له… و من بعد ذلك انظر للنتائج و ادعيلي 🙂

الرسم البياني أعلاه يمثل عدد المشاهدات لموضوع فتى الكاراتيه من تاريخ كتابته (2008/9/14) و حتى صباح اليوم (2009/6/19) ، نلاحظ وجود طفرة في عدد المشاهدات حدثت يوم أمس تصحبها طفرة أخرى في عدد مرات البحث عن جملة “فتى الكاراتيه” ، ترى ما هو سبب هذه الطفرة؟

أكيد صاير شي.. و لا شرايكم؟

I love my Macs.. I can’t live without them. At the same time I can not live without a PC either. On the PC I have a proper MS Office, Winamp with Shoutcast and PC Games 🙂

I started using PCs in 1995 since there was no way I would use it under DOS or Windows 3.1 (I used Amiga computers before that), so I waited until Windows 95, it was my main system for everything for about 7 years until I got my first PowerBook in 2003. As I said in a previous post, I used my PC to broadcast the radio ever since 2003 until few days ago, and that meant I had to forget about the PC Games and limit my use to word processing, audio stuff for the radio and -lately- using it as a Media Server to stream videos to the living room. The good thing is that I did not miss much because I had my Mac… and a Play Station.

After taking the radio away from the PC a gap appeared! Here is a less-than-one-year PC laying around with minimal use… What should we do about that?

The first thing that came to mind was… PC Games 😀

I have a PS3, but it’s in the living room connected to the only TV in the house, so it is rarely used since that TV is dominated by the kids all the time (3laihom bel 3afyah). Another thing is that there are some games which are meant to be played with a mouse and keyboard, like FPSs.

I don’t have any modern games for the PC, so I downloaded some demos to see how does my ‘modern’ PC cope with them. To cut a long story short.. IT DIDN’T COPE AT ALL! I have a fast-esh processor (2.0 Ghz Duo Core.. or whatever it’s called) and lots of RAM, but it had one of those integrated video cards… so it was crap!

The first thing I tried was installing the video card of my old broken PC (4 year old, I mainly use it for parts). Surprisingly it actually gave better performance than the ‘modern’ built in card! Half Life 2 (2004) ran fine, but Rainbow Six: Lockdown (2006) was terrible, and that’s a 3 year old game! Forget about Crysis (2007) or Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 (2008), even Doom 3 (2004) didn’t work for some reason! So the hunt for a ‘modern’ video card began 🙂

After a bit of research I found out that the current line of games require a video card which supports Pixel Shader 3… whatever that is! The good news is that all the video cards in the market supports Pixel Shader 3, and even better.. there is still no such thing as Pixel Shader 4 so whatever I buy will be ‘current’ technology more or less. But now of course I have to pick up a brand and model.

With the brand I had either GeForce or Radeon, so that was kind of easy. At first I thought about getting a cheap good enough card. After more vigorous research I decided to go for something in the middle, not very cheap nor too high end. In that mid range I found out that GeForce cards are the leaders when it comes to performance vs. value. The GeForce 9600GT was a great card for me, I almost bought it…. but, I found a very good deal for the even better GeForce 9800GT ‘used’ on eBay… very good deal 😛

How lucky was I for that catch? 🙂

… the story hasn’t ended yet!

The card arrived, no CD no cables… no problem 🙂 I knew about that and was prepared. The real problem was when I tried to physically install the card into the PC case. Lets say that the card was bigger than the case! No.. REALLY… even if I could manage to attach the card to the motherboard there was no way I could’ve covered the case….. because it was truly BIGGER than the case! In other words… I needed a new PC case, and that meant I had to move every single piece of the computer gut to the new case! … Of course I was more than glad to do that… I was thrilled! 😀

I didn’t have to buy a new case since I had one lying around form my broken old PC. But I needed a new power supply since the old one was… well… old… and did not have the right connections to suit the modern motherboard and component. The newer power supply was just too.. small! I bought a new cool power supply from a local computer shop which reminded me (the shop) of the shops in Mojamma3 Walaa. It’s a really cool power supply with a blue clear casing, shiny LEDs and a knob to adjust the fan speed 😎

Now that everything was ready, it’s time to Awaken the Geek Within! 😛

… and thank God I still got it 🙂 I am not unfamiliar with gutting and assembling PCs, but I wasn’t sure about the new technologies. The last time I took apart a motherboard was no less than 5 years ago. But I noticed that things actually got simpler, long lives SATA 🙂

Everything went OK.. al7amdu lellah. Installed the drivers, had a minor problem with one of the video card softwares.. not a big deal, but at the end the setup managed to run almost everything I threw at it, even Crysis‘s demo. So I’m very happy 🙂

Ok, so Vista is still dumb, errors for I don’t know what, updates every other day, Norton needing to be turned on and off to suit the situation, endless conformation alerts, restarts for not so convincing reasons, IE8… among other flaws, I know about all that. In other words It’s not a Mac, but I can live with all the flaws for a few hours a day (if I’m lucky 🙂 ). But… It’s still more fun, it keeps my inner geek alive and it got cool blue shiny LEDs 😎
