What snow does, in addition to making things much colder and slippery, is transfer the familiar places into something completely different.. at least visually. The feeling you get after coming out of your house door is not far from what the children felt as they came out of the wardrobe into the world of Narnia.
I shot these photos in Waseley Hills Country Park which is one of few natural reserves around the place I live in. We’ve been there many times in different seasons, but needless to say that this is the first time we go there while it is covered with snow. I was thinking about suggesting photographing there but I wasn’t sure because it is located at the top of a high hill and the road leading there is quite dangerous. But the suggestion came from Athoob, and I was more than willing to comply with it 😛
This year marks the fourth English winter we witness. We had snow at least once in every one of these years, yet, this is the first time I take serious photographs of it.
In the first year we were so happy about it we almost forgot to take pictures. In the second, snow came the same day we returned to Birmingham from a trip to Kuwait, so we were too busy to take the camera out. In the third we almost had no snow at all! It snowed once -I think- and it was at night and most of it melted the next day.
This year though, we had plenty of snow, and we were ready for it 😉
Will we be here for the next snow? Allah only knows.
